Nextdoor App is Awesome

Hey all.

So this Saturday was a great day for a rescue.  Our amazing outreach director Eileen was on the next door app and noticed that a German Shepherd youngster was spotted roaming around the Safeway on Greenback in Citrus Heights.  She alerted Emel and then Emel called me and I was the first to spot this fur baby and Emel arrived only moments later.

There was another couple there, Will and Corine, who were looking after this friendly giant.  We started calling him the top 150 german shepherd names to see if something would click.  He was quick.  And a bit growly if approached.  A few bites of some yummy chicken and his attitude seemed to calm down.  Will and Corine were amazing.  They grabbed balls and dog toys from their car that belonged to their own fur babies and Emel was ready with some Great food from Blue Buffalo and a dog bowl.

We inched closer to see if the guy would be interested in being rescued.  After a few hours. This gentle giant found some soft grass to lay in.  I approached slowly and sat just feet in front. He was a bit growly, but showing him signs of trust and kindness, he got up walked closer till his enormous muzzle was just inches from my face.  And with a gentle scratch on the tuff behind his ear, he snapped out of defensive mode and straight into lovable puppy mode.

I knew that I had his trust and I led him down to meet Emel and Will and Corine. I think that he finally knew he was safe.  I know he definitely enjoyed some amazing Emel hugs. We all shared moments of relief and happiness as we reveled in our collective triumph.  The next step was getting him to trust us enough to hop into the Wilderness Outback by Subaru, which is absolutely great for rescuing these fur babies.   And with ease he leaped right in.  And we were off to the shelter.

Thank you Will and Corine for being so awesome. Emel’s Heart also gained two incredible volunteers, ready to help when homeless, lost and wandering fur babies need a bit more love, care and attention…might I say a bit more heart.

The big guy, we started calling Flash, is now awaiting adoption at Placer County Animal Shelter in Auburn CA.  He is absolutely the biggest sweetheart. He listens well and does not pull hard.  Wishing you the best Flash on finding your forever home.

Thanks everyone.

Bryan & Emel
